Size Estimates
Bight Forge generates knot size and strand length estimates based on Strand Settings and Stretch Grid.
You’re probably interested in 2 estimates - the dimensions of the finished knot and working strand lengths.
- Start by entering accurate Strand Width and Strand Depth sizes.
- Use a combination of Strand Gap and Stretch Grid to approximate either your mandrel arrangement or the finished knot.
Viewing Estimates
Section titled “Viewing Estimates”- Expand Knot Configuration to see a knot’s current height, width, and diameter.
- Expand Knot Instructions and click Generate Instructions to see strand length estimates.
- Use Options > Canvas & Image: Show Grid Boundary to see the area included in size estimates.
Three Dimensional Estimates
Section titled “Three Dimensional Estimates”Bight Forge estimates are three-dimensional. For example:
- Strand Depth and Strand Gap are used to calculate the strand length needed to traverse the overs and unders.
- Strand Depth is used to calculate inner and outer diameters for cylindrical knots.
No Tyer’s Allowance
Section titled “No Tyer’s Allowance”It’s important to note that strand length estimates are for the area indicated by the grid boundary.
Since this area is unique to each knot and settings, Bight Forge does not add a tyer’s allowance. Be sure to add a buffer and length for the working-standing ends.
